Technology

Technology can enhance learning in so many ways. At Guthrie School, classrooms are equipped with technology and digital resources to help support education. We are also pleased to offer technology-based programs to help enrich the educational experience for our students.

Digital Resources

Digital resources allow students the opportunity to interact with the world outside their classroom. They also help students connect to concepts and express their understanding in different ways.

Some of the digital resources used at Guthrie School include:

  • Google Apps for Education - Suite of tools enabling students to communicate, collaborate and demonstrate knowledge both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Discovery Education - Comprehensive digital library of videos and resources that support the Alberta curriculum.
  • Assistive Technologies - Devices, media and services used by students with diverse learning needs including physical, sensory, cognitive, speech, learning or behavioural needs. Assistive technologies engage the student and help meet individualized learning and curricular goals.

Maker Education

Maker Education is about providing students opportunities to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering, math, art and learning as a whole through the experience of creation.

Throughout our division, schools are creating programs and spaces for students to learn the curriculum through “making.” Activities are age-appropriate and may include:

  • Crafts
  • Lego
  • Robotics
  • Computer programming
  • 3D printing and fabrication

From hands-on projects and experiences, students feel a valuable connection to their learning. They understand science and math concepts in a new way, which leads to confidence, enthusiasm and increased interest.
